Summer Camp

Summer camp this year ran from 27th July to the 3rd August in Five Ashes on the ‘Donkey Field’.

On Saturday when the scouts arrived they began by setting up their sites for the week, before breaking off to cook their evening meal, play volleyball and enjoy a campfire.

Sunday began with a rotation of different bases covering different scouting skills, including knife and axe work. In the afternoon, they competed in their patrols in the ‘Royal Tournament’ in various different team events.

Monday was the first day of a two day rotation with half the camp going off kayaking on the river Medway and half the group remaining on site and competing against each other in air rifle shooting and archery.

Tuesday morning was the ‘Scout Super Scout’competition (our take on the Olympics) with the scouts separated into the older and younger groups.  Congratulations to Lily and Fred for winning each group respectively. The afternoon then gave the opportunity to go swimming and enjoy the water slides and a wave pool.

On Wednesday we visited Bowles activity centre. The day was split between rock climbing and high ropes, with all the scouts having to work together to enable each other to complete the course

Thursday was the opposite rotation to Monday with the two groups swapping over to take part in either kayaking or air rifle shooting and archery. Thursday evening also ended with one of the most violent thunderstorms we’ve ever had on camp.

Friday began with the cooking competition with the patrols competing to see who could cook the best full English for our special guest judge Brian.  The results were very close, but Hurricane pipped it with their eggs. After this the scouts then went for another swim before heading to Brighton beach, where they played games on the beach.

Sadly, Saturday was time to pack away.  The camp competition was very close, as it often is and it came down to the last day. All the patrols did amazingly well throughout the whole week but there could only be one winner, congratulations to Tornado patrol.
