Coronavirus Update

Coronavirus Update

Hello everybody, firstly I hope that you and you family are managing to stay self and well in these unprecedented and uncertain times.

As you know, at 1st Cheam we try to support the young people in our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to the very best of our ability so I thought I’d just make contact on behalf of the Group’s leadership team and the Group Executive Committee by way of an update.

You will be aware that the Government have announced a continuation of the current restrictions until 7th May and after that date are working on a plan to gradually  re-open schools and progressively reduce restrictions, though it appears that ‘social distancing’ measures are likely to remain in force for some time. How this will tie into a resumption of Scouting activities is as yet unclear.

It is the Scout Association policy to follow Government advice and therefore Scouting activities unfortunately will need to remain suspended until we are advised otherwise.  We will keep you updated periodically as to how things are progressing.

In the mean-time I do hope that all our Beavers, Cubs and Scouts are joining in with the ‘virtual’ (on-line) programmes and challenges that are being sent out by the leadership team, if they so wish.

Details of the content of the various badges that Beavers, Cubs and Scouts can get involved with are available at www.scouts.org.uk and you can find ideas and sign up to receive information on ‘at home’ activities at https://www.scouts.org.uk/the-great-indoors/

We are all looking forward to when we will be able to re-open activities and resume our programme of weekly meetings, camps and other events.

Please do take care and stay safe.

Regards

Dave Hodges (Group Chairman) and the 1st Cheam Leadership Team
