Introduction

Join the Fun and Adventure of Scouting and you will be assured of an experience not available elsewhere.

In Scout there are plenty of opportunities for adventure and fun. You will be able to try lots of different activities like Caving, Canoeing, exploring, cooking and hiking. This can be on your own, with your Patrol, Troop or even at district level. If you do them properly you will get a badge which you can wear on your uniform. There are over thirty activity badges to choose from and seven different challenge areas to discover. camp site

You will be able to go camping, hiking in The Peak District or travelling on a canal boat. This will mean you might sleep in a tent, in a building or on a boat. You will have many opportunities to take part in outdoor activities like cooking on a open fire, tracking, map work or using a compass.

Troop Meetings

Scouts are the third section of the Scout Movement and invites young people between 10½ and 14½ to join the fun. The meetings are weekly but usually there will be other additional activities organised to support the Challenge programme that has been devised to cover all aspects of the training scheme designed to encourage the development of young people.

1st Cheam Troop try to camp up to six times a year. This allows for activities like canoeing, caving, hiking and pioneering to be undertaken without the time constraints of the weekly meeting. They will use our own campsite for the short weekend camps but travel further afield for their annual summer camp, like Wiltshire and Sussex in the last two years.

The programme runs throughout the year, though an informal series of activities take place during the school holidays. There are also opportunities to take part in events run by Sutton District so they can meet and join other troops in the locality. Typical activities run by the District include swimming, sports and camping competitions.

We aim to offer the widest range of activities for young people in this age range to encourage them to become self reliant, self confident and a asset to the community.

Contact us if you would like further information or go to application form if you would like to join the fun of Scouting.
